Them: Covenant Movie Gets Backlash For Exhausting Black People's Trauma Again

Them: Covenant receives backlash following the release of a trailer a few days ago.

The TV show wasn't applauded as you'd expect because they've been accused of capitalizing on the trauma of black people.

The series is a limited anthology that examines terror in America. The first season, 1950s-set COVENANT is about a Black family who moved from North Carolina to an all-white Los Angeles neighborhood during the period known as "The Great Migration." The family's idyllic home becomes ground zero where malevolent forces, next door and otherworldly, threaten to taunt, damage, and obliterate them.

Little Marvin, the scriptwriter and executive producer of the upcoming Amazon horror anthology series “Them: Covenant,” signed an all-around contract with Amazon Studios some time ago.

In the deal, Marvin and his production company, Odd Man Out will create and produce original series and films for Amazon.

“There aren’t enough exclamation points to express how thrilled I am to partner with my Amazon Studios family on this new adventure,” Marvin explained. “Their bold and visionary dream team have been extraordinarily nurturing during the process of creating our first series together, ‘Them: Covenant.’ Elated to call them my home, and look forward to creating even more together with this new partnership.”

Well, “Them: Covenant” which is set to be released officially on the 9th of April, 2021, wasn't received well by Black Americans on Twitter and some have said they would boycott the series.

“Can we all agree to boycott this film? I'm sorry, I'm tired.”

A few others voiced their opinion about the series, stating they wanted a movie about a black girl that's fighting vampires and witches. “All we want is some black vampires and witches. Nobody asked for this,” she said.

Another person said they were tired of traumatic horror plot lines that are related to racial injustice.

“Black people experiencing racism is now a genre for horror films? My god! This is painful.”

Someone also mentioned the scene where a white covered their face in black paint while tap dancing.

“Imagine going in for the casting call and they give you a man that taps dances in blackface.”

“Free us from black trauma plot lines,” another woman said.

As it is now, the Them series is starting on the wrong foot. For a TV show with just the trailer out, the ratings have been between 3 stars to 3.8 stars.
